When I wrote my first c++ basic program of ‘Hello World’ I fell in love with the language. Through my first two graduation years, I kept making simple C++ programs like those of fibonnaci series, Prime Number, Palindrome Number, Swap Number, Palindrome Number etc but when I reached the third year, I came to know from my seniors that most companies, which come to the campus offering jobs, ask object oriented programming with C++. I realized that I was on the right track so, I took my preparation up a notch. Apart from coding programs directly, I started understanding the concepts of OOPS. Within a few months, I could code C++ polymorphism programs, linked list, queue and stacks. Along with my friend, I developed a C++ project of library management system and was on my way to learn the low-level programming because I wanted to build drivers. Well, within a few months campus selections started. Sitting in my first interview, I was nervous to the point of sweating on a winter day but a good thing happened then. The interviewer asked me about the project I developed in C++. I babbled all about it for 20 minutes, believe me, he was impressed. Then he asked me what are the features of C++ you like over C. First, I spoke about the memory management where I explained about dynamic memory allocation and freeing up the memory when we want. Then, my next feature was pointers in which I explained how we interact with memory using them, then after I spoke on recursion, speed and object oriented features, the interviewer stopped me. He became sure that I knew the language. I also thought that I had nailed it and indeed I did. But, the point behind telling you about my journey with C++ programs is that if I could do it then you can do 10 times more. That’s how confident I am about you. All the little success I had in C++ came to me from a book which is Object Oriented with C++ Balagurusamy. Back when I studied C++ and C, there were barely any internet tutorials and books were the only way to learn something new. I still find it as the best book for object oriented programming C++. Even though it has its share of errors but for beginners there couldn’t be a better book. If you need it then it is available at a discount of 75% on bx-zone.com
